He nodded, “Yea, they can be. Though sometime we just need new ones to replace them.” He flashed her a small smile thinking of how things had changed since he met Hamuko, “Or someone to help us overcome them.”

[She chuckled lightly at his words.] “That’s true.” [Chihiro remembered discovering how absent-minded she could get once she took on more work than necessary. Perhaps, her new-found sense of volunteerism had a price to go with it.] “Though I’m surprised, Aragaki-san. You seem to be speaking from experience when you said that. A guy like you has fears of his own? Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that.”

“C’mon, it can’t be that bad! Alright I’ll tell you something about me first,” Junpei flashed Chihiro a toothy grin. 

“Uh, let’s see…I play video games all the time! But-uh-I bet you already knew that…” 

[Chihiro did not know that, but it didn’t surprise her. In all honesty, Junpei looked like the type to do so.] “…Fine.”

[Taking a deep breath, she spoke.] “I like reading shoujo manga, okay?” [She tilted her head at him, waiting for his reaction.]

[The younger girl’s discomfort was very apparent, and Fuuka realised, too late, that she had never actually met this girl before. Seen her, yes, since Mitsuru-senpai and Minato-kun were both in the student council with her.]

“O-oh, um, sorry.”

[She smiled sheepishly.] 

“I-I guess, since senpai and Minato-kun mention you sometimes, and I see you around sometimes, I f-forgot that we’ve never met..”

[It’s incredibly embarrassing to admit, but what choice did she have? She tried for a reassuring smile. …well, as reassuring as she could make it in her own nerves, anyway.] 

“Um.. I’m Fuuka Yamagishi.”

“I-I see.” [Chihiro was about to cover her face with the book she carried, but she managed to resist. Instead, she settled for looking down at her feet.] “N-no, it’s fine.” [She tried to reassure Fuuka, though she was fairly sure she wasn’t doing well in convincing her of that fact. Just what was wrong with her today? Wasn’t it men she was afraid of, and not women?]

“Ah! Yamagishi-senpai!” [So that was her name. Unfortunately, it was too late when Chihiro realized that she blurted her thoughts out loud. Horrified, she bowed deeply at her senior.] “I’m so sorry!”

[She bowed at him once more.] “Thank you for accompanying me all the way here. Hmm, I was just going to buy some tokens of appreciation for the administrators of the school, as they were so kind to house me during my stay here in Inaba. Perhaps you know of a place where I can buy some…” [Chihiro paused for a moment, thinking of what would make a good present.] “…Wine, I suppose? Unless you have a suggestion of your own, Adachi-san?”
